Print the names of the people who have passed through Fairport Convention's ranks, and you have a virtual Who's Who of British folk music. With their pioneering '60s folk rock — built around key members Sandy Denny and Richard Thompson — Fairport fused traditional English tunes to an electric West Coast sonic template (laid down by the likes of the Byrds) in innovative, captivating ways. "Meet on the Ledge", from 1969, fully deserves its classic status. The lineup would change, but the tunes remained strong, as you'll hear in Next Steps.
