One of the finest songwriters ever, i love some of his later recordings too, esp Beautiful visions,Poetic championship, Enlightenment & Hymns to the silence.........But his finest moment is between Astral weeks and Veedon fleece I think. Many many songs that not included here, some songs from Astral weeks off course, Listen to the lions, TB sheets, Caravan, etc, etc......I remember when I saw him in Stockholm 1996, god damned boring, one of the badest concert I ever seen and that ****** Georgie Fame was with him, everything was crap with the concert except for a wonderful Tupelo honey he did as last number i think. One of my biggest heroes is VAN THE MAN!Feedback:

I know what you mean about him being boring live - actually, I can't help but wonder if he was boring live in the 60s and 70s too. I've seen some pretty boring footage of Them. Still, those Van and Them records are amazing.
Hmm... I've thought about doing a Van comp, but I only really love three of his albums--Astral Weeks, Veedon Fleece & Moondance--and like only a couple of others (St. Dominic's, Tupelo Honey, His Band..., Into the Music & Beautiful Vision), so I've held off. Nice mix, though... I really like his stuff with Them, myself...
One of my heros as well! Impossible to narrow him to a single disc. You have to do as you did and concentrate on one period in his career. I saw him in concert once and he was great. His live albums are sensational as well. Nice picks.

Van is another one of my favorites and would be very difficult for me to pin down to one disc. This is an excellent start.
