I recently met a guy with (IMHO) excellent musical taste. He's already turned me on to some great new stuff, so I've resolved to return the favor. This is the first of two CDs collecting a variety of tracks he probably hasn't heard and really should, as well as a few that just kick ass. Since both discs are all over the map, there are some strange segues, but they've all been designed to at least intrigue the ear - nothing is completely out of place, despite the jumps in styles and genres. I'm particularly pleased by the Tom Waits (spoken word) > Great Big Sea (bodhran & shanty-style vocals) > Apocalyptica (instrumental strings) > Daytonas (surf rock) section. It looks really strange on paper, but sounds really cool back-to-back. Either way, I'm confident that there will be several tracks that he's never heard but will soon be all-time favorites.
