You know you're a bad man when people aren't merely stepping up to cover songs by you, but are actually writing songs about you. Alt-country darling Rosie Flores weaves a pickup truck full of Merle song titles into "Girl Haggard," a honky-tonkin' stream-of-consciousness ramble about her unrequited love for Bakersfield's favorite son. Georgia-based Mike McCarroll uncorks a double-barreled blast of fiddle-scrapin', boot-scootin' vintage country as he inserts himself into a somewhat unholy trinity in "Merle Haggard, Jack Daniels & Me."
