Comment:

Even though most of these tracks are edited slightly to eliminate the "psychedelic" noodling that frames this wonderful band's best pop moments, and even though I enjoy the Circulatory System, Sunshine Fix and Pipes You See, Pipes You Don't records, I miss these guys. This is posted with a healthy tip of the hat to popkulcher's fine OTC compendium posted last summer. The Elephant 6 revolution starts here.

Ooooooooh. I have wanted to get in to this band for *so* long, but all of their albums (except the collection of early stuff) are out of print. I would love to have this.

Can we all agree though that, judging Ciculatory System against Sunshine Fix, that the real talent went with W. Cullen Hart?

While I prefer the Circulatory System to the Sunshine Fix, I can't say that I completely agree with you, Patrick. But hey, that's what opinions are for. :-) I like Bill's stuff with the OTC a lot...

Great stuff; looks like we're in agreement on a lot of their songs (though once you weed out the more experimental and/or silly stuff, they didn't leave the hugest catalog of actual songs behind). I'd personally give Sunshine Fix a slight edge over Circ. System, though both did a fine job of showing that OTC was greater than the sum of its parts -- even with 2 songwriters OTC had a hard time filling an entire album with great songs without relying on some annoying filler, so not surprisingly both post-OTC albums are kinda thin on top-notch material. It's sad how quickly most of the great Elephant 6 empire crumbled -- Neutral Milk Hotel & OTC both gone after two proper albums, Beulah on its way out, Apples regressing a bit on their latest... Ah, but what a brief, shining moment it was!

Awesome.. pretty much everything i woulda picked. And yeah, i personally favor Circ. System over the Sunshine fix. 'Age of the Sun' is pretty good, but man, when i saw them in atlanta last summer they sounded like a lame Byrds cover band.

Nice one Rob. I haven't listened to OTC for a while, but at their best, their pop stuff is truly outstanding.
