Comment:
My favorite 80 minutes by a fine songwriter and vocalist--to me, she's by far the best of the current crop of "listener-supported-radio" icons--pulled from Jen's complete collection (I used to own all but her first two albums, but sold them when cash got tight a year or so ago). Songs that it hurt to cut: "I Lost It [Car Wheels version]", "Hot Blood", "Broken Butterflies", "Jackson" and her fine cover of Nick Drake's "Which Will". I have a feeling that this track listing may be tweaked a bit in the next 24 hours.Feedback:
So many great songs....
Yeah, great selections here, though it's hard to go wrong with her. I don't think she has any bad material - maybe the occasional self-indulgent or even dull moment - but nothing really bad. Well, there was that show we saw last year - that had a couple questionable new songs. I still like her first two albums on Folkways - great vocals. I remember when that Rough Trade album came out - I was shocked, first that Rough Trade would put it out and second that it came out at all. It's so NOT a period piece. Good collection.
I've always been curious about her. I remember this for our eventual trade.
Great choices, Rob! This would serve as an excellent intro to Lucinda for anyone interested.
Here's a vote for "Side of the Road." Hard to say, but maybe my favorite of her songs. Also a couple more from Happy Woman Blues, such as Howlin' at Midnight, King of Hearts, and the title track. But whaddaya gonna do? You only got 80 minutes. The 21 you did choose are all great songs. Nice job.
This is very good. I also have a Lucinda mix and it's always interesting to compare the tracks I selected with those that others chose. "Six Blocks Away", "Pancakes" and her cover of "You Don't Have Very Far to Go" are also very nice but one can only do so much with 80 minutes. Nic work here!
All of these songs are so beautiful; I just love her. I'm curious to hear this new album, as it's supposed to be a bit different, but also has songs dedicated to my hometown ("Minneapolis") and Paul Westerberg (though I forget the title to that one, "Beeding Fingers" perhaps). Beautiful mix.
Beautiful Rob. Some great choices.
whoops, I meant "Bleeding Fingers"; I need to learn how to type. And, uh, the mix is just as nice as when I made my first comment.
