Comment:

I defined this as mixed genre, but it's really about a break-up and depression in the middle of the coldest winter we've seen here in a long time. It was meant as a comiseration piece / pick-me-up for myself. Probably the most heartfelt mix I've made. But, technically speaking, it covers everything from alt-country to indie rock to folk to old-time to pop music. So, mixed genre it is.

Some of the artists are a bit obscure (if you are at all prone to melancholy, and are a fan of Dylan and Waits, then you NEED to buy Chris Keup's CD, The Subject of Some Regret). Paul Curreri is a local folkie on the Charlottesville, VA music scene. Amazing live performer. Amazing. Mike Doughty: ex-lead singer of Soul Coughing. I recommedn checking out all of their websites.

The mix opens and closes with two of my favorite Wilco songs. The last one really speaks about this particular CD. "I was saved by rock-n-roll."

I'm most proud of the sequencing of songs. I spend a lot of time working on the transitions until they are just right.

Used to love to make 120minute cassette mixes, and I was initially turned off to CD-R's, but...

This is the first mix that I've posted on this website. I'd love to hear what you think of it.
