Legacy - The World of Oasis
Comment:
The glory days of Britpop may be over, but the sheer magnitude and unbelievable quality of the Oasis catalog still casts a massive shadow. You'd think Liam Gallagher's new band, Beady Eye, would feel the weight of expectation the most, but you'd never guess it from the loose-limbed rave-up of their debut single, "The Roller." Here in the States, there was no shortage of bands that hoped to emulate Gallagher & co.'s wild-bunch swagger — among them are The Killers, formed in 2002 after drummer Dave Keuning placed a newspaper ad, seeking musicians with a "love for Oasis." Check out the tripwire chord sequence that detonates the chorus of their "Smile Like You Mean It." And in Ryan Adams, we're treated to an artist rooted in alt-country who clearly supplements the sheet-metal riffage of "Shallow" with the beefy crunch of Oasis' "Cigarettes & Alcohol." From the swagger and smash of the Arctic Monkeys to the guerrilla-rock of Kasabian, follow the thread of Oasis through even more of today's best artists.
