Similar Sounds - The World of Oasis
Comment:
From the instant Oasis hijacked our ears, their radioactive core of concentrated rock 'n' roll goodness radiated outwards, infecting the great bands around them. Britpop archrivals Blur drop a four-chord fuzz bomb in the pop-grunge shotgun marriage of "Song 2," tapping into Oasis' (and Nirvana's) anthemic aura while keeping their tongue planted firmly in cheekiness with a "woo-hoo!" Primal Scream scored huge critical marks with the neo-psychedelic dance fusions of 1991's Screamadelica, but after Oasis joined them at Creation Records, their next album, Give Out But Don't Give Up, took a detour into full-blooded rock. Coincidence? Synchronicity? Either way, "Rocks" does precisely that. In 1995, Robbie Williams marked his departure from boy band Take That by peroxiding his hair and hanging out with Oasis at the Glastonbury Festival, and by the power-ballad pity-party sound of "Monsoon," the Gallaghers' bad-boy impact is permanent. And that's not all — from Pulp to Jet, you're about to meet more of the artists who left footprints on the Oasis soundscape.
