Comment:
For all you youngsters out there: THE SWEET were the pivotal band of the Glam Rock era, formed in London, England, in early 1968 as SWEETSHOP by singer Brian Connolly and drummer Mick Tucker (both formerly with pub rockers Wainwright's Gentlemen). Completing the line-up with Frank Torpey on guitar and Steve Priest on bass, the quartet recorded a one-off single ("Slow Motion") for Fontana before Torpey was replaced by Mick Stewart. After three further throwaway bubblegum singles for EMI label Parlophone, Stewart was in turn replaced by Andy Scott (formerly with psychedelic outfits The Elastic Band and Medway's Mule), and the band was signed to RCA. There, producer Phil Wainman and songwritng team Nicky Chinn/Mike Chapman took the guys under their wings and wrote 'em a handful of poppy European chart-toppers ("Funny Funny" etc.) before they adopted a slightly harder-edged approach for No. 1 single "Block Buster!". They repeated this winning formula for another 1 1/2 years, putting six consecutive Top 5 singles on the charts in GB and all over the continent. In 1974, Sweet decided to part ways with Chinnichap and write & produce their own stuff, with moderate success, though. In 1978, they had their last hit with "Love Is Like Oxygen". One year later, Connolly left the band to go solo. Now truncated to a trio, Sweet recorded three more or less forgettable albums before finally disbanding in 1981. In the late 80s, Connolly and Scott started touring with various outfits, both using the name Sweet.Since on Feb. 10, 1997, Connolly died of heart failure and on Feb. 14, 2002, Mick Tucker died of leukemia, I thought it was high time for a little tribute to these mighty Gods of Glam. Presented here is their complete 7" output, including megamixes released in the mid-80s and solo singles recorded by various band members prior, during or (in Connolly's case) after their stay with the band, plus special versions recorded or mixed for the US and Japanese market. A collection of b-sides, outtakes, live and album stuff will follow soon.

Feedback:
the guy in the purple is creeping me out.
Ahhh, that's GLAM, baby!
Great, great discs! I haven't heard those mega mixxes in years - but the "we want sweet" chant is still clear as a bell to these ears! I can't wait to see your b-sides collection. I've never even heard the solo stuff. Seeing these mixxes inspired me to put up my old Bubblegum Sweet comp. I'm a fan, but Thomas, you seem hardcore!
yes a great single band, once the pooh in a piano at the great outdoor scene at gr÷na lund in stockholm
Yep - still great. I'm happy to send you what you need for these.
I'm lovin' this mix, thanks for sending it to me. I like how they changed personalities over time, from bubblegum to glam to metal to fake-ELO. The earliest singles (when they sounded JUST like The Archies) are fab and surprisingly the very last stuff they did is great, too. A bang-up job!!
