Comment:
A measure of an artist's greatness is how many other great artists cover his or her work; in Joel's case, his melodies, his lyrics, ring so true and stand so strong, the list simply goes on and on. Barbra Streisand sweeps away the "set 'em up, Joe" rhythm & bluesiness of "New York State of Mind" and glosses it up with a little cabaret cachet. Snap-brim swingin' or soulful seduction? It's dealer's choice, as the Chairman of the Board, Frank Sinatra, and the Prince of Pillow Talk, Barry White, serve up two very different versions of "Just the Way You Are." But it's not just established artists — and legends — who've borrowed Billy's best; Glee bad boy Puck (a.k.a. Mark Salling) offers us a jock's-eye view of "Only the Good Die Young" as he strums his way into McKinley High hearts . . . and ours. From Dolly Parton to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, artists of every style, sound, and size turn to the Piano Man for a song.
