From his hepcat scat to his super-slick threads, Cab Calloway was the unchallenged king of cool, and he had the tracks to back it up. On "Jiveformation, Please," he's a professor of hip, holding a master class in jazzman lingo. "(Hep - Hep!) The Jumpin' Jive" puts all that knowledge into action, unleashing a hurricane of hardcore hipster slang, and creating a swing classic along the way. And when Cab starts unfolding the tale of "The Man from Harlem" who had all the ladies in the palm of his hand, it's hard not to suspect a bit of autobiography going on.
