Informed by the details and excesses of exploitation/splatter cinema, and possessed by restless creative demons, Rob Zombie has forged a uniquely American brand of searing, blood-caked, road-rashed rock 'n' roll, starting out as the lead singer of White Zombie, then departing on a solo mission from which he's never been recalled. The obsessions that surfaced on White Zombie cuts like "Black Sunshine" — which features a spoken-word cameo by Iggy Pop, and culls audio samples from Faster, Pussycat! Kill Kill! — would form the bedrock of a career that has been split between movie directing — the Halloween remakes; The Devil's Rejects, etc. — and music.
