Comment:

Here's a mix tape for those of you who hate their ex-significant-others for what they've done to them.

I've planned this mix quite carefully, taking into account lyrical and musical 'steps'. For example: the first song is quiet because that is how the break ups always start. They start softly and end in a rage (which is also how The Best Deceptions ends). Track 2 is very angry track lyrically and musically, and it carries on the theme of cheating. From tracks 2 to 5 the music gets less and less aggressive (even though the lyrical themes stay essentially the same). By the time we get to Red Letter Day the protagonist has stopped being so angry as such and is starting to get over his ex. In fact, the he takes a more reasonable look at the relationship as a whole and discovers he was unhappy all along. By Forget My Name , he clearly doesn't care about her any more at all. Also, the music is starting to cheerier and more upbeat now. This is taken to the extreme in the next track, You Don't Know which is a stupendously happy track. By the lyrics saying "First of all I'd like to say fuck off." to such happy music, it's like he's flaunting his new found joy to make her feel bad. And, yes, the next track shows him just enjoying himself on a night out. The next track, however, is slightly more introspective. He's looking ahead and thinking he's going to have a happy life without that bitch. But there's a niggling voice in the back of his head: "You might come to California... I think you should."
