Martin Carthy
Comment:
To gauge the talent and influence of English folk godfather Martin Carthy, it's worthy pointing out from the outset that his unique arrangement of "Scarborough Fair", gifted to aspiring young folkie Paul Simon, became a cornerstone of Simon & Garfunkel's repertoire, and that Bob Dylan would never have recorded "Bob Dylan's Dream" had he not learned Carthy's "Lord Franklin" while visiting the U.K. in '62. Quietly subversive, staunchly progressive, and exceptionally talented as both a singer and a player, Carthy is the English folk scene's lynchpin — the artist who holds it all together — so dive headfirst into his songbook with "Famous Flower of Serving Men" and "January Man". Spend time with Carthy and his go-to fiddler, in Next Steps.
