Comment:
I was wandering aimlessly at Amoeba records late last night, and I stumbled upon the 2000 Tom Waits' tribute album "New Coat Of Paint." I worked at a music store for several months in 2001 and was tempted to get it then, but for whatever reason, I didn't. I was in kind of a pensive mood last night and when I was buying it, the guy behind the counter took, without exaggeration, about two minutes to study the CD. The songs, the cover, the artists. I was kinda hungry and sorta tired (in addition to the pensive factor), but I didn't mind the time that he took. He wasn't flirting, he wasn't being weird, he was just really interested in the CD. That musta been a good omen. I'm pretty sure I've listened to the Neko Case and The Blacks tracks about 50 times today. I realize that the Tom Waits' versions will always reign superior, but, listening to the same lyrics I've heard for years interpreted by different (especially female) artists managed to free up a few roadblocks of the mind I've had of late.Feedback:
Genius. i'm so glad you're back.
Nice stuff.
Yummy :)
like a lot on this one
i have to second that emotion, court. i also have to admit that, aside from her being the infamous 5th original Gun St. Girl--i love that legend-- i'd never even been slightly interested in neko case as a solo artist---but she's lovely on this tribute album.
