Comment:
This mix started off as a lark, but quickly transformed into something more sinister and despairing. There is something very disturbing about this whole t.a.Tu. phenomenon, and it doesn't have to do with age or exploitation. I came across the infectiously catchy single "All the Things She Said" before I knew about the back story - as throw away pop confection, it is almost unassailable. Then I started to uncover the.."truth" about what might be the most cynical music marketing gimmick to come down the pipe in quite some time, and it just made me terribly sad, and seemed to be an appropriate metaphor for the much that is going on around me. So instead of the intended Top 40/Dance mix, I started to infect the tape with songs about obsession, betrayal, substance abuse, lust, lies, fucking people over, getting high, drifting off into a haze of indulgent self-pity, and pretending to be a lesbian when you're not. Or something like that - I'm not sure, I was in the grip of a mighty awful cold when I made this, so whatever fever dream narrative this is supposed to convey is completely lost to me now. But the general feeling is of having a pretty fucking awful fast one pulled on you, recognizing it, and consenting to it even though you are aware of the moral damage it causes. Just like listening to t.a.T.u. Good times.Feedback:
Wow. I adore this mix and am blown away by the comments.
Wow!! I love the use of the Radiohead song, it makes the whole thing even more surreal. The Bjork track too. Very nice.
