Comment:
I first started thinking about this sometime before Xmas after being pissed off at the crap that invariably gets put on all those "Best Chill-Out Album In The History Of Civilisation Ever" compilations: you know, Enya, Enigma & the like; stuff that's the musical equivalent of a cheese-cloth smock.Muzag's "Experiments In Mood" series was the impetus to actually get down to doing something about it.
Whether this deserves to be ranked along side his fantastic efforts is a moot point. Certainly there's no way I can match his seamless mixing. Still, it was fun.
A note about the extracts, In each case, I've chosen those parts which best fitted the overall mood: In the case of the Soft's & Cow selections, it's the closing third: the manipulated drone which concludes "Moon" & On "Ruins" Fred Friths guitar "solo" & the final fade. From "Echoes" I extracted the abstract central "Wind, seabirds & Sonar" section.
