Comment:
It's a given that the man who rapped about the candy shop would understand the importance of variety. Born to wreck mics and build brands, 50 knows the power of self-promotion like few others — reaching out to both likeminded artists and those with completely different fan bases. The point was always to expand the distribution of Formula 50 with checkered-flag-waving anthems. Few were better than the gleefully profane "Magic Stick," where he and Lil Kim somehow managed to be naughty and nice, boasting about their boudoir brilliance with the R-rated wit of a good teen comedy. Eagerly embracing the swag generation that he helped spawn, 50 and Soulja Boy broke (and made) bread on "Mean Mug," a razor-sharp salvo aimed at the scalps of their enemies. But for all of his Mike Tyson-fierce body blows, 50 is always ready to display his softer side: Ride slow and pull your girl close while listening to "Down On Me," his phosphorescent Auto-Tune workout with Jeremih that packs feverish rhythms and Redd Foxx raunch. When you can do it all, you're always in demand, which explains why Eminem. Dr. Dre. Diddy, J. Lo, and Timbaland have also requested his velour-soft touch.
