To understand just how influential Depeche Mode’s been for decades, all you need to do is dust off their many remixes. On the more recent side of things, Booka Shade delivered a full-bloom edit of “Martyr” and Tiga dabbled in black-lit electro with “Suffer Well.” On a more ’90s tip, Underworld brought a hard techno heartbeat to “Barrel of a Gun” and DJ Shadow draped “Painkiller” in funeral-pyre strings and steely synths. And with some serious programmers/keyboardists at their very center, you better believe Depeche Mode’s own alternate mixes are a little insane, from an industrial strength attempt at “Something to Do” to a steam-pressed “Maxi Mix” of “Strangelove.”
