Comment:

Combing the genres for songs inspired by the King -- the reverent and irreverent, the silly and the sublime. My son, a few years ago when he was about 5 or 6, told us that when he came out of the womb he saw the King of Rock 'n' Roll. I'm not making this up! I guess Elvis really is everywhere.
After I put this together, I looked for more Elvis sightings on AOTM and came across a similar mix by joey de vivre called "Elvis on Velvet" (ya gotta get up pretty early to stay ahead of joey). Only two overlapping songs though, which just goes to show that the King continues to leave his mark on human consciousness. Any Elvisheads out there should grill a peanut butter and banana sandwich and check out joey's excellent mix as well. Thankya. Thankyaverymuch. Modified slightly on 3/17/03. Took the Misfit's advice and added "Elvis' Rolls Royce" (see his comment below). It fits right in. Thanks for the suggestion! One other addition to the playlist ("Elvis and Me"). There. I'm done.

Great! Elvis really IS everywhere. There is a case to made for Elvis being the most important cultural figure in the 20th century.

Nice mix. Elvis is alive and masquerading as a midwife, eh?

great stuff, I only miss Phil Lynnots "king call" and that Public enemy track where they "sing" "Elvis was a hero to most
But he never meant shit to me you see
Straight up racist that sucker was
Simple and plain"

Fantastic! (Another personal favorite, not on yours or joey de vivre's, is Was (Not Was)'s "Elvis' Rolls Royce," featuring vocals by Leonard Cohen.)

I'll go along with what Sean said. A great mix, and a terrific idea

I love Elvis. I also agree with Sean. Elvis's story is the tragic American story. So many things are the result of Elvis. Nice job.

Great, great mix, of course. I wrote an article for Cool and Strange Music a few years ago that was about a) weird stuff Elvis himself did (like the movie soundtracks, the live "talking" album, etc.); b) tribute songs that were recorded in the monthes after his "death" (there were literally hundreds of tributes!); and c)other songs that mention Elvis in the title or lyrics. If you're interested, I can make you a copy of the article.
