Comment:
It's nostalgia time, kiddies, time-tripping to the glory days of college radio circa mid-'80's, when the airwaves were cluttered with either hardcore, Europop, or American jangly-guitar tunes. In the latter category, R.E.M. was of course the standard-bearer, but similar sounds could be heard in like-minded artists like the Connells, Love Tractor, the Reivers, Guadalcanal Diary, etc. I've extended the genre just a bit to fill out the disc, including the dB's (a bit too early), the Vulgar Boatmen (a bit too late), Tommy Keene (a bit too Big Star pop), the Rain Parade (a bit too psychedelic) and the Replacements (more traditional rock, but jangling fine on this track courtesy of Peter Buck). Turn up the treble and enjoy.
Feedback:
Good lord, I think I own(ed) every one of these records. I guess it's the nostalgia talking, but this music held such promise for a short time.
This is great - takes me right back to my time in Ann Arbor in the mid to late 80's. You don't happen to have any Rank and File on CD do you?
I don't have any Rank & File. Also missing from my collection are a few other bands that probably fit the mold here (Go-Betweens, Green On Red, Silos, Giant Sand, etc.).
ooh, nice. i'd love to trade.
Damn. This reeks of excellence.I absolutely love that Miracle Legion song.
I love this mix! I don't hear enough dumptruck or love tractor these days!
Good god, I love this!
looks really great, send you the mixes today hope it's ok
Great, great stuff up and down.
Great stuff... Rain Parade, dBs and Feelies are all bands I've just recently gotten into.
I'm with James - that Miracle Legion song is wonderful.
Nostalgia is right! This brings me back to my junior year in college. Love the Love Tractor and I'm keen on the Tommy Keene. Great selections as well from the Replacements (still my favorite song by them), Meat Puppets and Game Theory.
I love it. Every track is a gem.
How did I miss this?!? Marc, this kicks serious ass. Just what Sue said.
