Comment:
Nearly 80 minutes of the Pittsburgh indie-rock supergroup (Damon Che of Don Caballero on guitar/vocals, Karl Hendricks on bass/occasional vocals, and Noah Leger of Hurl on drums) that could potentially be (with apologies to Sean Lally) my favorite band from my hometown. This band is all about musical excess--teaming shards of psychedelic-meets-Van Halen guitar over epic-length tunes (the last/potentially best track on this disc runs for 27:24) with explosive rhythm section backing and hints of pop melody. For the few of you who have actually heard this band (and I know they're pretty damned obscure, therefore I'm expecting next to no feedback here), I decided to use the Scat CD version of Songs for the Terrestrially Challenged, despite my initial preference for the "lo-fi"/Wayne Rogers-produced version on Mind Cure records.Feedback:
oops i've neard of them , must check them up
hmm i am from pittsburgh but i don't really look into pittsburgh music. every once in awhile someone will drop a bands name to me. where do these guys play in town?
Never heard them.......but it sounds interesting;-)
like everyone else, never heard of them, but your description makes them sound interesting.
Alas, Peter, they don't play in town... their last album came out in 1998. As you're probably aware (I'm sure you shop at Paul's periodically, judging by your cool mixes), Karl is still around and still plays in his Trio, but Damon was relocated in Chicago (with the rest of Don Cab) for most of this band's life and is now relocated in Punxsutawney, and Noah is in Chicago, recording with the band Taking Pictures. (Wow, that's a long sentence, but I think it's in the neighborhood of being grammatically correct.) And I think that their albums are (unfortunately) out of print, although the Scat CD copy of Songs for the Terrestrially Challenged makes its way into used bins periodically.
Hmm, I know very little about this group so toss this baby in a pile for me as I trust your endorsment.
sounds interesting. maybe i will have to look for them. a couple at jack's advised me to check out some local band that plays club cafe and is supposedly really good but i was too hammered to remember the name. heh.
Whoa, Jack's. I haven't been there in years, although I'm sure it's still the same. If I *have* to go to the South Side, I always pick Dee's.
Wanna trade for this? Your description sounds pretty damn cool...
Sure, as soon as I get my burner fixed. I did this one on a friend's computer...
sounds worth-while, i'm gonna have to look into them, i love don cab, but never really followed pre or post happenings
These guys existed at the same time as Don Cab.
