2Pac was a man containing multitudes — so he understandably demanded production capable of matching his many mood shifts. No one else could siphon the soul out of a purple-hearted soft-rock ballad, spin 360-degrees to spit rollicking cadences over gut-busting funk, and then drop gems over shimmering jazz and '70s soul platters. Sensitive and always under siege, he worked furiously and frantically, beholden to no specific sound but the words flying through his head. The needle may have never stopped spinning with 2Pac, but here are a select few of his finest sampled grooves.
