Comment:

So while at was at my friend Rich's place dubbing my Royal Trux mix (my computer is still not fixed), I noticed that he had all of the Beasties records that I've ever cared about... Licensed to Ill, Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head, Ill Communication and Hello Nasty. This is the result. I've got to admit that I've always thought Paul's Boutique was great, and Check Your Head comes pretty close to that... Last songs cut: "She's Crafty", "Johnny Ryall", "Intergalactic", "Flute Loop", "Jimmy James" and "B-Boy Bouillabaise".

Have you heard their new anti-war tune yet? Pretty good, though I'm not really a fan of the band.

I'm hardly a "fan", either, so no, I haven't heard it (although I know that it exists). Maybe I'll check out their website later.

Paul's Boutique is the ultimate rap album for people who don't love rap (i.e. me). On a technical level, it's a brilliant achievement, probably the most creative use of sampling to date. And Licensed to Ill was the soundtrack to many a drunken evening back in college. Can't say I've been too interested in their subsequent work (though they make great videos).

looks great! the only song i would add to this would be "stand together" from check your head. on another note, it's nice to see you making a best-of mix on an artist i've actually heard of...;)

Beastie Boys, eh? I've got to say I'm skeptical to this day, but I'd definitely love to give them a good listen some time. Interesting mix...

I agree with Marc's comments below. I've never been a huge fan of rap, but Paul's Boutique is sensational. I have Licensed to Ill too, which is fine for what it is, but not nearly as interesting a listen as Paul's... This mix looks like it would be a perfect salve for those times I feel the need for a little of the Boys.

SO sorry to see all those songs (except jimmy james and johnny ryall) get cut...i guess you can't win em all. you had pretty much all the good records, although "some old bullshit" defintely has some choice tracks, like "cookie puss"

haha, you ended with "I don't know". I didn't think other people besides me and my weird friends liked that song. Nice.

I love that song. It's probably the only song on Hello Nasty that I really love.
