By the by...if anyone here *has* it (it was in limited release back in '82 on vinyl and cassette, so I'm not holdin' my breath)...please let me know...there were only 10 songs on the OG soundtrack, but I compiled some more tracks from the movie to make the uber-soundtrack, minus the umlaut.

Cool idea. Love those Cars and Waitresses songs especially. I always found the ending to the movie tragic, though I have a sneaking suspicion most people thought it pathetic. Thoughts?

And here's the part where I freak Scott out: I first saw TLAV the summer before I was a freshman in high school. I watched it on USA Up All-Nite with a group of girlfriends at a slumber party or some event I should've grown out of attending by that point, but hadn't...it was edited to smithereens, so I had no idea what I was missin. All I know is that by the end of that sanitized version, I was madly in love with Lawrence Monoson (Gary)...I know, I know. It's frightening, it's strange, it's kind of shameful. But it's the damn truth. Thus began a pattern of being attracted to kinda nerdy, overly-sensitive guys who never quite got what they wanted (and were always pining for someone else-- but that's another story for another day.) I also would push the movie on my friends like any healthy obsessive would do, and they'd think it was lame and goofy or whatever. But as soon as that ending rolled around with it's sad sap "Just Once" underscore, each and every last one of my friends would look at me and say something along the lines of "Why the f*u*c*k did you make me watch this? It was kinda funny until they threw in the melodramatic ending. Whatthef..?" Anyway, a long ramble, yes, but if ever a movie has earned one from me, it's this one. Ahem.

It's official -- you're...uhm...the bomb diggety. This film has been a favorite of mine since seeing it on HBO or Night Flight or whatever circa 1984, and I truly believe that in those impressionable days, it formed/maligned my view towards relationships and I've been suffering ever since.
