Comment:
I have made Genesis compilations before but they're quite similar to the other ones already on this site. I found this one that I made several years ago that has some of my favourite instrumental moments by the band (which was always, I thought, they're strongest point.) This also includes solo stuff and Phil's side project Brand X of whom he was the drummer (again, by far, his strongest point.) If I were to make this tape today I'd probably include more of Steve Hackett's stuff (in particular Spectral Mornings, Kim and Please Don't Touch.) 2nd Home By The Sea I fade out before Phil starts singing but I left the vocals in Duke's Travels since it is so brief.Feedback:
Very novel idea. I used to love Steve Hackett's solo stuff, but sorta lost interest after the 4th album (Defector?). Do you like any of those later records? I still really like "Please don't touch". He's really a phenomenal player.
Steve Hackett lost it for a while after Please Don't Touch, but his two classical guitar albums are fairly pleasant, if not all that essential, and I'm pretty fond of "A Midsummer Night's Dream". (Can you tell I try to avoid the albums where he sings?) A nice selection overall, although I must admit I'm not actually very fond of "Do the Neurotic". I probably would've gone with "Droned/Hand in Hand" instead, from "Face Value". And there's an interesting Peter Gabriel obscurity on Tony Levin's "Pieces of the Sun", a previously unreleased (mostly) instrumental from the Melty Face era, "Dog One".
Nothing from Foxtrot, how about a sequel???
