Comment:

The title comes from a line in a strange short-short story (250 words) by the teacher of the fiction writing class I took when I was a college sophomore. To follow the theme suggested by the title very loosely, I thought I'd start off on an exuberant foot with The Style Council song and end with an equally optimistic Yo La Tengo doing breezy bossa nova, and stuff twists and turns and mood swings in between. Desperate? Satisfied? Same difference. Actually, the big challenge was seeing if I could create a playlist with "Eternal Flame" on it--and actually burn the mix with the song still intact. The Hub Moore song is a studio version of the live song performed in the Hal Hartley short "Surviving Desire". "Dear Madam Barnum" is one of those laugh as I cry kind of songs with especially clever desperately satisfied-type lyrics by Andy Partridge. Speaking of desperation, "Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time)" was the only thing that got me through Quentin Tarantino's "Jackie Brown"....
