OK, see if this helps: "Hold on Hope" by Guided by Voices, "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel, "Holocaust" by Big Star, "'Til I Die" by the Beach Boys, and I'd sub "Feeling Yourself Disintegrate" for "Do You Realize?" OK, I'm done now.

id say, spend time on it, and she will love this forever, no matter what
my favorite gift ever (beside a my blue sparkly musicmaster guitar that i recieved from one boy) was a mix tape, and i played it till it would not play...

i second the vote for "in the aeroplane over the sea". "reservations" by wilco, "it's love" by the softies, "you're the good things" and "sleepwalking" by modest mouse, "the heart is a lonely hunter" by the anniversary are also some good ones, and i HIGHLY recommend "consequence" by the notwist.

Even though it's belated, I was going to suggest Coldplay's The Scientist until I noticed you already have it here. I'm about to cry just thinking about it.
