Comment:
So I made what I find to be a nice little movie soundtrack mix. It's mostly composed of sentimental suites, soft orchestrations you can do your homework to or just relax with. All of the tracks stand on their own as real songs, except for perhaps the last medley from E.T. which is film scoring at its best. My favorites are the Field of Dreams songs, as well as Elmer Bernstein's timeless "To Kill a Mockingbird, plus Nancy Wilson's "Elevator Beat" and the always exceptional Thomas Newman with the always exceptional Shawshank Suite. The theme, awarded post-burn, is escapism, because I realized that many of these scores described a character escaping from something (be it their past, the Holocaust, Shawshank Prison, government scientists, etc.). I thought, then, that I should include Elmer Bernstein's "The Great Escape;" then "Escape from Alcatraz" then "Escape from the Planet of the Apes" and by then it had gone too far; none of those songs fit the mood of the mix, anyway. So the theme will remain, as most themes usually are, superficial and only a bit contrived.
