Comment:
Yeesh! This was a long time in the making - a sequel of sorts to my Toxic Pop Syndrome volumes 3 and 4, in two discs. These are songs by 80s garage, pop and psyche bands - bands with heavy 60s influences and record collections. Bands that really hipped me to a lot of great music, and others that just wrote good pop hooks. Thanks to good pal o' mine Johnny for transfering a mess o' these tracks from vinyl, and also thanks to everyone's favorite Swede for giving me the Creeps. I am really fond of these songs - many of them I haven't heard since they were released, and it's great to see them hanging out with one another again. Also, thanks to Boogichild for suggesting that I use that fab-o Last song on a mix. Alright everyone, let the reminiscing commence! Title is clearly from the Jam song, though I think it pretty much sums up my feelings on current world affairs - nice to see things haven't changed in 20 years. I should also add that I played on the Macrame tune. It's a cute little ditty.Feedback:
This is brilliant!! So many great tracks.
Vinyl will rise again! This looks real jangly-wangly.
This really does look incredible. Great looking stuff all around.
I haven't heard most of this stuff but I think I should. Looks great!
Ahhh, reminds me of high school days. really great!
Outstanding choices here Sean! (the Leopards, the C. Kings, the Last, Things, *AND* Plasticland!!!)
Yes, they are all great disc-mates....

Yes - Plasticland indeed. I should have credited you for inspiring that choice.
Most unnecessary.., Viva the 80s..!!! (and "Toujours les Toxic Pop Syndrome"!)
wasn't it a very long time since we traded ? love your toxic pop serie and this looks damn good too
Wow!
love the dB's and marshall crenshaw! Also, though I don't recognize that particular bangles song, they were a fun group. I got to see them and the hoodoo gurus back during the height of bangle-mania! cool mix overall!
Also, I sent yer discs out on Sat., so look for 'em soon...

I sort of almost dimly recall an LP by a band called the Things back around '86, played it quite a bit on my radio show. (As well as a colored-vinyl EP by the Seeing Eye Gods.) Sure wish I still had those.
The Things' album "Coloured Heaven" is an awesome release on VOXX. To my knowledge, they had 2 more releases after that. The production got better, but that first album has a nice lo-fi 60s quality to it - you'd swear that it came out in '66. I liked the album so much that I had the entire thing cdr-ed. I can certainly hook you up with a copy.
I just spent this past weekend listening to my traded for copies of the early Toxic Pop Syndrome mixes. It was great listening and I'm looking forward to checking out these new mixes. Great stuff Sean.
Great stuff, Seanald. Who's Johnny?
Wow. This looks incredible!
Looks excellent Sean. I guess we don't need to ask you how you spent your spring break. Would love to hear it one day
This is excellent and thank you for putting the grapes of wrath on there! Nobody puts them on their mixes and they were sooo good.
First-rate stuff. Great work, teach. ;)
Wow. whoa. wow. I'm stunned. So good, so very, very good.
Shawn, as usual your lack of attention to christian decency is a bit disruptive to my families dinner. why just now I told my wife - "hold off on that story about your volunteer work with the lepers, hon, shawn d. lally is holdin up the rebel flag of satan again and my eyes is glued." why do you pull me into yer evil, so, my good man? is it that one time that I lied and told you there was no way out and you knew damned well there was? Is it the goats? the heavens opening up, a lot like worms and food? have you no sense of decency or decorum? I'm at a loss. look for me on the next survivor. One more thing - do you think your beloved mark farner is off talkin about the pleasures of the flesh, shakin' it and all? hell no! he sings for god now, clyde. trust jesus.
Sounds like you and Holy G. need to swap mixes.
Great stuff. This reminds me to digitally upgrade my THE FLASHING PICTURE HURTS mix.
