Comment:
not trying to be willfully obscurist here, but there's probably not a lot on here that people are gonna know. so the story goes: Lottie, whom I rely on for all my non-musical good taste, insisted I go to the Adolf Wolfli exhibit at the NY Folk Art Musuem a few weeks ago - needless to say it made an impression. For the curious, I suggest doing some exploring on your own (here's a start: http://www.phylliskindgallery.com/self-taught/artbrut/aw/), but the short version is a institutionalized schizophrenic who created a 45 book, 25,000 newspaper print size page complete fictional world, densely packed with texts, poems, music, illustrations, and collages touching on everything from cosmic wars, scientific explorations, inventions, travelogues, maps, numerical charts, investment calculations, urban development, social and political platforms, transformation, redemption, catastrophe and regenesis, none the least of which is his recasting his autobiography as a saint. Given some of the past things I've thrown up on this sight, you may be able to see why I was just a little turned on - the mix is mostly just impressionistic, some of which immediately came to mind when we were there - lots of "colors", psychelics, folk songs, marches, pop culture, blurred and jagged lines and several deconstructed appearances of words + text (which were integral in all of Wolfli's stuff). The "regenesis"/"dies irae" (the latin death hymn) open/close wasn't not on purpose, though. btw, the image is Wolfli, "General view of the island Neveranger, 1911"
Feedback:
Looks like some nice weirdness here. In the dark about most of it but those I know indicate how twisted this could be...Nice :)
His work is amazing. I'd like to hear this. Let me know if you're up for a trade.
Pretty impressive. I've been trying to find Ghost's music for a while! so if you fancy doing us a best of. How's $23 sound?
wow -lgarnas trSdgsrd (for you all = Garden of mooses)
Yeah, both this mix and the artist in question sound really interesting to me, my friend.
Looks mighty interesting indeed.
Adolf Wolfli is one among many of these "outsider artists" worthy of such a carefully thought-out honor. Lakespeed, you're on to something here......, great picks. (Might I suggest Charles A.A. Dellschau for your next possible tribute....? Fascinating. What's left of his art...., and story.) Bravo Lakespeed!
(my favorite part is that i was referenced.......)
I've missed out on yr mixes and I apologize for this over-sight. Looks absolutely fascinating!
