Comment:
Let me say up front that the concept, not to mention about 2/3 of the songs, are ripped off directly from the esteemed Sean Lally. Still, I had a few things lying around that I'd never listen to if I didn't compile them somewhere, and it made sense to tuck them in amongst Sean's picks. So here's my take on the genre, silly 2:30 pop songs, all jangle and little buzz, guaranteed to bring a smile across your face. For better or worse, it's become my 6-year-old son's favorite part of my vast music collection, so I've ended up listening to this far more than I would have liked, but for some reason I just can't get the kid all that interested in Yo La Tengo and Pavement. At least not yet -- maybe when he's 7.
Feedback:
whoa
goddamn, dude -- what an outta control sugar fix! some real beauts here, man.
Lush! but surely YLT have made the odd bubblegum moment?
You'll get no complaints from me here, that's for sure. I found that I had to lay off the stuff after making my mixes. I really like your picks here. I'm especially fond of: Banana Splits, Ohio Express, 1910, Sweet, and hell, all of 'em! BG mixes are great because you don't have to suffer through entire albums by the "artists", though I think that the Archies' albums are pretty solid (among others). I like it. 'Nuf said!
I like it too, great stuff to cheer anyone up with
This looks amazing, Marc. A really great cross-generational bubblegum sampler/summation.
Why, I'd pay $23 for this!
It's fab!
Great sugar buzz. I like the more recent stuff, which is spot-on. I think Liz Phair doing Josie completes the circle.
This looks totally great Marc, but at the same time I'm a bit disappointed, since I had my own bubblegum mix in the works. Oh well, such is life. Love the combination of old and new stuff. No wonder your kid digs this stuff. I hope he never outgrows it.
So are those pieces of bubblegum or ear plugs in the picture? I assume the latter would come in handy for hardcore Joy Division fans if they were exposed to this mix! ;)
I once looked at my earplugs through a microscope at work...I wouldn't recomend this to any one...I change them alot more now....Sweet mix by the way, literally.
Sticky but tasty.
Wow...talk about guilty pleasure land. Lots of fun stuff, and very well compiled. Nice work.
SUPERBUBBLE!!! (I'm with the young Master, Ion: I hope your son never grows out of this stuff either.., a great springboard to power pop and all that comes after....)
I'm assuming the picture depicts those god-awful pieces of gum you used to get on Halloween, just a notch above Bit O' Honey on the loser Halloween hand-out category. I get a lot of my cover art illustrations just by typing buzzwords into a Google image search. This popped up when I searched "bubblegum."
wonderful!
I'd buy this collection if I saw it in the store. Your kid has good taste!
