It's a bit of a rhetorical question considering the website but I believe I have submitted one possible answer. A DJ (or mixer if you will) is a complex personality with a diverse interest in musical genres. What differentiates him or her from the casual recorder is the attention to musical flow, theme or diversity of the mix. I have had the pleasure of exchanging mixes with many that have met this criteria.
