Comment:

this is a tribute to the thief that is rock n' roll. Elvis stole it from the black man and for almost 60 years we've been stealing from each other. sometimes it's a little too shameless. the pretender is followed by the band or artists whose sound they've stolen...or in the case of the strokes "last night" they have simply stolen the song "american girl" and gotten the lyrics wrong. the same goes for "Get Free" by the Vines.

I agree with some of these but for Hot Hot Heat I'd say their singer wants to be Robert Smith of the Cure (at least on Oh, Goddamnit)

very cool concept. And I'm sure if someone dug a little deeper, one could find original sources (e.g. Negative Creep taken from a Pixies riff, taken from a ???)

i'd say the strokes "last night" sounds suspiciously like interpol's "say hello to the angels".
