Comment:
First off, I have to give great credit for this mix to several AOTM-ers who helped me out. Thomas Mohr provided me with the Atomic Cafe soundtrack, from which I have borrowed extensively. Other tracks came from Joey de Vivre and Gerry. The goal of this was to showcase some of the atom-themed music of the Cold War era, with an eye toward those songs specifically discussing the atomic bomb. I found dozens of songs, but tried to pick the songs that were most musical AND conveyed the 1950s/1960s atomic fright. A few tunes were chosen for their humor or irony. There are more than enough for future volumes, but unless others want to suggest specific tunes, I don't think that I'll make it. These songs (and historical speeches) are pretty powerful on their own. I'd say that I hope you enjoy it but, truthfully, I hope you are disturbed by it. Of course, everything old is new again, eh?Feedback:
Some fresh air on this list.
Too true, & too close to home! You know I've GOT to hear this, so it looks like some more trading coming up, eh?
Wonderful!
I Love it, glad to hear you finally got the Atomic Cocktail soundtrack. Stock up the bomb shelter, don't forget this cool mix.
I think you've succeeded. This mix looks great, yet disturbing at the same time. Kind of the "Catch-22" of mixes.
Great mix. Brought back some old duck and cover memories and that friendly atom guy.
Well, of course I knew that this one was coming up (or shouldn't it be coming down?), and I must say it looks like you got a real hit there, megatons of fun, as it were. (I still think, track no. 1 is actually called "It Makes a Fellow Proud to Be a Soldier", though. ;)). Pleeze save me a copy, and thanx for the credit. 'Twas a pleasure, pal.
Hey TM - that's a different Lehrer song - he certainly wrote a bunch of great ones, though.
fantastic.
is that "great atomic power" the same tune covered by scots? very nicely done, Sean
WOW. This mix is the bomb! I gotta have it. (The mix, not the bomb)
you forgot the Gap Band, man.
The Ghost is SO right.
just what Debbie harry said "ATOMIC"
Good work.
as ever, Sean, a truly great mix. And you're very welcome
Fantastic collection that I would LOVE to have...Great stuff!Still finding lots of audio weirdnesses in boxes, so please consider a trade...
I would love to trade for this--if nothing I've got up so far appeals, I've got several cassette mixes I haven't put up yet, or I could do you a new one. :)
Yes, I love this too
A Project the scope and size of Manhattan..., doesn't take an Einstein to see the ramifications of this one let loose on the world!!!
The Warren Smith song would have been better had Rod Stewart sung it. Lovely mixing chap!
Big fun, kinda. Still looks great. Put it on my list?
terribly sexy, sean
I can't let you go without saying that you, my man, are a breakdancing fool. Keep up the good work, baby.
If you'd like to trade, would be glad to send you the mix you requested.
if you'd like to send me a tape of yourself breakdancing, I have nothing to trade but I would watch it daily
on the subject of breakdancing, did you ever get that "essentials of breakdancing vol.I" mix that I sent?
Mix of the century...Would have been an A+ at half the length...Just an amazing collection to be treasured for it's haunting backdrop to about 50 years of fear...You are the King of AOTM...Expect mail shortly...
Another classic, my friend. You are the master, I bow down before your eminence! =) Excellent.
Sean, This mix and the Viva Farfisa mix are both amazing. The range of styles on here is so great. From calypso to country to gospel, nuclear proliferation had some serious competition on it's hands, you'd think... Thank you so much, and hope you're enjoying the Mexican stuff!
Best,
Mike

Great Mix! Gotta get a copy!
