Comment:

I'm really sick of VH1's bullshit 80s schtick. The decade was about more than Michael Jackson, cocaine, and light brytes. Fuck Pop Culture.

All feedback welcome.

Temptation is a great mix finisher.

Ah, yet another anti-'80s '80s mix. Fortunately you have a boatload of great tunes here. I agree with your comment that pop culture isn't representative of an entire decade...yet it's what most people remember. I just think these "alternate '80s" mixes veer close to revisionist history, as good as they are.

A lot of bands might have sold more albums, but you included some of my favorite bands that had a huge impact on my musical tastes later in life...Public Enemy, The Stone Roses, and especially Husker Du! Nice mix.

I don't think it's revisionists at all. How old are you? Anyone worth their salt in the 80s was all about the above bands. Don't let the media convince you otherwise.

I'm 26...I saw the '80s first hand and don't appreciate the condescension. I only think CDs like this are "revisionist" in the sense that (with a few exceptions, like Prince) it presents a picture of the '80s that is not consistent with what was going on. If you gave this CD to someone in an effort to turn them on to the '80s, it'd probably work wonders, because it contains a lot of really fine stuff...but it's not an accurate picture of "The '80s" as a whole. A lot of these bands didn't become renowned until years later. Look, I love this stuff, but I won't pretend for a minute that it was the "real '80s." In my mind, the "real '80s" was somewhere in between what was in the forefront of popular culture *and* what was in the underground. Why does it have to be one way or the other? Why can't there be a happy medium achieved?

Prince, Iron Maiden, and the Beastie Boys arn't popular culture?

That's three artists. And Iron Maiden wasn't *that* popular.

BTW, I'm not trying to give you a hard time. This was a fine idea and consists of (generally) great songs. I'm just tired of the "the '80s the way they REALLY happened" mixes.

It's cool. I like criticism more than no reponse at all. I half bullshitting with the whole "blame the media" routine.

I really didn't know this 80s things was such a trend. I should browse the site more.

No problem, Ben. Lemme reiterate...this disc is great. :-)
