Comment:
This is it. My first mix CD, albeit commissioned by myself and burned by my good friend Peter. I wish I could say that within these hoary tracks of a poppier time lay the incipience of a higher musical conscience, but alas! This is a CD chockfull of hecka memories. Just found it overhauling my room at my parents' house.
I loved this thing; I played it in the car constantly for weeks, and I liked to break it out during extracurricular journalism sessions. I thought I was high stuff with my one big beat electronica song. I'd fend off ridiculous claims from my editors, such as Goats Head Soup being the greatest Stones album, or that Santana's Supernatural was a monumental work that was uncalculatingly spiked with world music influences and A-list inoffensive guest stars (I have the eventual review somewhere, I think). No, I was unfooled, clutching my shiny disc and making epileptic right-hand motions to the amemic turntables in "All Star," thinking I was the cat's pajamas, shall i tell you more? No. I moved slowly on to smaller and better things. But what a fun disc.
And "Star, Star" is a kicking tune.
p.s. Guilty pleasures are for old women and those with weak constitutions.
