They were "America's Beatles." A quintet of former folkies who'd plugged in and let their hair grow, the Byrds quickly claimed top spots on the pop charts with the singles "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "Turn! Turn! Turn!" From the mid-'60s through the early '70s, they explored new terrain, plunging into psychedelia with another hit single, "Eight Miles High," and country-rock with the lovely [i]Sweetheart of the Rodeo[/i] album.
