Comment:
Yeah yeah, I realize that some of these tracks do not in any way resemble punk ( #1,16, 17 ) but I like the way they fit in the mix. I intend to give a copy of this to everyone in my French Class who wants one. I worked quite hard perfecting the order for this, so any feedback, good or bad, would be much appreciated.* Tracks #3, 5, 11 - 16 I own on various CDs. The rest I downloaded.
Feedback:
What, no Plastic Bertrand?
wow. what a massive oversight. thanx, I'll try to squeeze it in somewhere. God, can't believe i forgot that. ( meant in completely non-sarcastic way)
Bonne chance ce soir avec La Vie en Rose. Nous allons rocker le monde.
Plastic Bertrand is Belgian, not French. NOFX ain't French either. Same goes for Blondie, Skinned Teen, Le Tigre and so on. Dig the Edith Piaf, though. Check out my French Punk mix.
Sorry, I should have clarified that by french, I meant en francais. I don't think any of these bands are actually French. I'm pretty sure Grimskunk, Venus 3, Les Marmottes Aplaties, and Vulgaires Machins are Canadien.
I would also recommend Mano Negro, which was a French/Spanish band & probably one of the most influential bands in Europe (punk or otherwise) outside of England. Mano Chao was the leader. Some songs in French, some in English, some in Spanish.
If you're into stuff like that, check out Les Cowboys Fringants. They're a bitching folk-punk band from Quebec. And Penelope. Great mix though, I saw les Marmottes live a few months ago, great show.
Being French and familiar with this scene I cannot but recommand all to check out for groups like Ludwig Von 88, The Happy Drivers, Les Sheriff and most important: BTrurier Noir, the initiators of the punk movement in France in the 70's which had a lot of troubles with the authorities. As for Edith Piaf we'll say it's just a filler ;)
