Comment:

i think there should be a genre called "birthday mixes." coz this is my 2nd birthday mix, and i feel so generic putting it in 'mixed genre' when birthday mixes are a lot more special. well i made this mix for my buddy Grant, whom i've known nearly 2 years now. he changed my life a LOT. for starters, he introduced me to the pumpkins and jeff buckley, and a whole circle of wonderful friends. after meeting him i actually left the house on the weekend. here in wollongong , we got this special place called the youthy. or rather, youth centre. it houses band night on thursday, and although frequented by local dero kids, it also represents the haven for the youth subculture of punks, goths and musos in the illawarra. without grant, i might never have known this. :-)

so last year when he turned 18 i wrote him a birthday song about the wonderful day around 20 of us took the train to sydney - the day i met him. twas a joyous occasion. a day i'll remember for a long time. we didn't do that much. we hiked to Utopia (back in the old days when it was a tiny little metal-head joint) then wandered indirectly down to the harbour, where we sat in the park until the afternoon had ended. but more or less this signified the start of a whole new chapter in my life. so this mix is for grant, my friend and one time boyfriend, to commemorate his 19th birthday. side a - tracks that were important for us at the time. side b - general whatever's been on my mind recently. :-) oh yeah, and the first few tracks follow some lines from the song i wrote "...and jeff's voice, and melon collie/ and the bends brought us together/ and they still do."
