Henry Grimes: played on some of the greatest jazz records of the 60's & disappeared without a trace for 35 years. As documented in several rags within the last few months, he was "found" last year in by a music enthusiast slash social worker, having spent the last 3 decades in LA living in a small studio apt. battling depression and working custodial jobs & the like. William Parker bought him his first bass since around 1970 and he played his first "comeback" gig with Nels Cline in March, and appeared at the Vision Festival in New York this past weekend alongside Rob Brown & William Parker. Truly an incredible story. The above is a sampler of some of my favorite records Grimes has played on, some, like the McCoy Tyner, recommended as I've slowly compiled this. Artist = leader.Feedback:
