Comment:

80 great minutes of a criminally underrated band that pioneered both the Chicago-indie sound and the burgeoning alt-country sound from the late 80's until (at least) 1996. I really wish I had copied their last album, Notes Campfire, before I traded it... as a result, this collection stops a bit short with 1994's Frozen. Songs cut: "Make Me Laugh Make Me Cry," "You", "Heywire," "Zillion" and "Please Don't Let Me Love You," among many. By the way, anyone who hasn't checked out guitarist Scott Tuma's solo work is missing out.

Dammit, I don't know this band either, but your description makes it sound like something I'd like.

Both of you would *love* these guys. I guarantee it. FYI, you can definitely see their influence in Joe Pernice's projects, most notably Scud Mountain Boys.

I not that familiar with this group either. Having used Rob as a "gatekeeper" of sorts to guide me to some sounds that I miss, I look forward to hearing more from this band.

don't know about them, Rob, but I'm sure, from your description, they are worth listening to. In a future trade, perhaps.

Given the description, and the various glowing comments by those among us who know them as well I'll seek them out....

Where the hell do you find these bands, Rob?

Um, I'm not sure what you mean, Vinz, but I could tell you where I discovered this one.... In
approximately 1991 or '92, I was in a used record store here in Pittsburgh with a friend of
mine who pointed to the Rough Trade vinyl version of their second album, Flubber, and
said, "Dude, you really need to buy this. These guys are great." And with that (along with my
realization that I probably would never see Rough Trade vinyl copies of *anything* again), I
picked it up. When I stumbled across their third CD, Around the Horn, in the same record
store about a year later, I picked it up, too. Then a few years ago the first four got reissued
as 2-for-one, re-mastered CDs... and so on...

Hmmm, I never got the appeal of this band. Or maybe it's just "Around the horn" - I think it's a bit mediocre.

Very very nice...and agreed on the Scott Tuma, too. New SA record is in the can & due out sometime in the future.
