That knowledge is something that you'll never have.
Comment:
80 minutes of the woman who should be incredibly wealthy due to the royalties owed to her by the likes of Tori Amos and Fiona Apple (neither of whom, it has to be said, can even be mentioned in the same breath as Ms. Bush when musical innovation is being discussed). This was very, very difficult to make... some favorites got cut: "All We Ever Look For", "Strange Phenomena", "Them Heavy People", "The Big Sky," "And Dream of Sheep", "Suspended in Gaffa" and "Breathing," to name several. I also wish I could have cut one or two more from The Kick Inside (in order to be fair to the other records), but it's so far and away my favorite (Hounds of Love is next) that it was impossible.Feedback:
a faultless mix. An artist that, sadly, we hear far to little from these days. Love every track here, and totally agree about the ones you left out, I love those just as much. Still remember her first appearance on Top Of The Pops, with Wuthering Heights.
I first saw her on Saturday Night Live and I thought "Who is this woman screeching!?" Now I have all her albums.
I have The Sensual World, and like it a lot. A very worthwhile mix for everyone who should hear her. I have a "chick pix" mix somewhere in me, and Kate Bush will definitely appear. We'll see how it goes mano a mano with Radio Sally's great chick mixes.Challenge to you: your favorite song by each of your 20 favorite bands. Or as many as 80 minutes will allow.
I am extremely glad to see Kate getting some long-overdue love, and the mix is great... but oh come now. the only reason Tori Amos and Fiona Apple get trashed for copying Kate is because they are female and play piano. there are tons of males who play guitar who are much, much similar to each other than they are and don't get any grief....
Right... this is all my opinion, I suppose (albeit one that's widely shared among people who have known Kate Bush's music for a long time prior to hearing the music of the other two artists)... but, um, have you compared, say, The Dreaming to the Boys for Pele album recently? (Just one example.) You're right in one sense: they're not overly similar because Tori is a much-watered-down version of Kate, and Fiona is an even-more-watered-down version of Tori.
I've listened extensively to both the Dreaming and Boys for Pele, and aside from the fact that their voices are somewhat alike, their eccentricity, and the piano (and even I think their styles are _very_ different), I don't really see the similarities. They talk about completely different subjects in a completely different way - they have a totally different approach to their music. (Admittedly I like the Dreaming much more than I like Pele, but still.) Of course this is all just my opinion too, and I do see where you're coming from. I just happen to like all three artists. *shrug*
Well, lyrics don't figure into my analysis of either artist, to be honest with you. I try to ignore Tori Amos' lyrics as often as possible (not that I can remember the last time that I heard a Tori album). Thanks for the feedback on the mix, btw, Syna. I do appreciate it.
i just kinda got into her after getting hounds of love for cheap, i like it it quite abit, where do yuo thikn is a good place to go next?
The Kick Inside. Definitely her best record, if you ask me.
Kudos Rob for even attempting to make a Kate mix. I don't think I could do it...so much good stuff, it would be hard to leave it out. Kate is one of my all-time favorite albums. Looking forward to hearing a new one from her one of these years. Cheers!
Um...obviously that last bit should read "all-time favorite artists". :-)
