Comment:

okay. so. here we go.

i'm graduating tomorrow. in nineteen hours, actually. and high school isn't as easy as putting it all into a 90-minute tape, and i've realised that while making this. i fit as much as i could. and this breaks mix rules and whatnot, but whatever. what is on this tape is two things: what i was listening to at the time, and/or what i was feeling at the time.

"popular": an introduction to the wonderful world of high school
"marianne": quickest girl in the frying pan, also one of my favourite songs going into freshman year
"both hands": the end of my first boyfriend & my relationship, november of 1999
"liar" & "20 years in the dakota": i entered a sort of riotgrrl stage where i hated boys & thought i was a lesbian.
"good fortune": my first girlfriend.
"points of authority": i liked them them. and still like this song. blow me.
"climbing up the walls": a sort of breakdown after the girl left me. rainy nights & writing.
"buddy holly": two girls that i'm not friends with anymore... this was our car anthem. i met another boy (and this is one of Those Relationships, the ones that you devote years of your life to, no matter how fucked up they became) and i was starting to become happy again.
"orestes": my best friend, at the time, she sung this to me a lot. give me one more medicated peaceful moment
"trouble breathing": the boy left, for the first time.
"left and leaving": the sidewalks are watching me think about you/i try not to wonder where you are
"summerland": the best friend mentioned before sung this one to me, too. don't fall down now, you will never get up

"9 outta 10": this is some christian rock for when i had a god phase. yeah, i had a jesus thing for a while.
"strange condition" and "for nancy (cos it already is)": another girl, who i tried to save... and failed. and then she left me, too.
"pyramid song": more mental breakdown fun.
"mumia's song": falling in love with a boy who introduced me to anti-flag and modern punk. he never returned the feeling.
"independence day": The Boy came back. now that you're back/you better stay this time
"dead leaves and the dirty ground": falling in love with him again. late nights in may sneaking out to kiss in the street.
"gunner": one of those memories that you never forget. he was driving me home, and this song came on the radio. it was august, cool and the windows down, 2am. it was the first time i'd heard denali, and well, if you've heard this song... it's rather atmospheric. we both fell completely silent and just listened.
"sorry about that": he left. again.
"opium": let's hear it for crippling february depression!
"green eyes": and i meet the new boy, the current boy, the one i love more than i've ever loved anyone before. i fall head-over-heels. lost in my love for him.
"if you hate your friends you're not alone": i hate most of the people that used to be my friends. i hate most of the people in my school now. end.
"destiny": the boy lives in california, and i am in ohio. even though we are miles apart/we are each others' destiny.

yeah, i'm done rambling now.

the mix seems pretty good especially concerning you high school life, but on another note, reading your reasons and your phasres makes me think that i would really hate you if i knew you.

Wow...amazing all the shit you notice when you start looking back on a block of time huh? I'm actually gonna pay you tribute and burn a variation of this myself. Looking over your mix, I'm reminded of something. Every time I close the book on something major in my life- a school, a relationship, a job, a project - I ask myself the same thing, which is what you might want to ask;

Knowing what you know now, would you do it all over again?

cheers!

This was a great idea. An interesting peak into four years of your life.
