Comment:
80 minutes of Mr. Gillespie, with much of this material being provided to me by p the swede (I've owned just about all of their stuff at one time or another, but have since traded much of it, so he was very helpful in the replacement sweepstakes). As always, some worthy tunes had to be cut, despite the fact that this band is wildly inconsistent (to my ears, their only *great* album is Screamadelica, although Vanishing Point, XTRMNTR and Sonic Flower Groove are not without their merits): "Crystal Crescent", "Star", "You're Just Too Dark to Care", "I'm Coming Down", "Rocks", "You're Just Dead Skin to Me", "Love You" and "Silent Spring" were the most noteworthy omissions. FYI: in order to fit an extra song, the last 40 redundant seconds of the "Swastika Eyes" techno fade-out were cut.Feedback:
A great mix of a great band, my favorite album with them is Vanishing point...I miss Star, If they move kill 'em & Medication.....but hey! It's your mix;-) Mr.Gillespie's musical influences are also worth a spin!
Wow.., I was thinking the same three songs as Mike! (But, I'll take "Screamadelica" over anything..., with "Vanishing Point" a close second...)Some of the dub stuff is fffffantastic as well.....
Great mix, Rob. I love their version of "Slip Inside This House" and Trainspotting would be in mine, but no complaints at all.
The first song is one of the high points of pop music.
I like all of those songs, actually. They were all in the running for the disc.
Looks fantastic Rob. I haven't really heard much by these guys since I bought Screamadelica. Hard to believe that the same band that brought us the innocent indie pop of "Velocity Girl" is now producing complex work like "Swastika Eyes"
Great job. I've made a Scream Team mix too but I admit: this is better.
i'm all about screamadelica and xtrmntr, and cannot believe you've left rocks off this mix ;)
you know this is one of my biggest heroes, not always for how he sound but sometimes what he says in interviews but the latest album was a dissapointment
