Comment:
Every garage snob worth his/her weight in soiled 45s becomes uncontrollably weak in the knees when hit with the sound of that almighty cheesy organ. Happened to me, I swear! Years ago, possessed by the need for cheese, I drove a beat-to-shit bug convertible out to Pissville, Ohio, following a hot tip on an ancient Farfisa organ. And there it was - $50, a steal even if it didnt' work. Drove it home, and the rest is history. (I'm no organist, but that just might be me on track 11). So here you have my fave moments of ultra cheesy organ sounds - some classics, some shouda-beens, and some definite glad-they-weren'ts. Gotta say BIG thanks for King LoFi, Madam Buglady and God's own Casetta, for hurling Fleshtones my way. And also many thanks to Franklin Onn for that boss SDQ tune. And thanks to all of you - you're nice people, you are. (I suspect that I'll add one or two more tracks, after they're x-ferred from vinyl - look for the Chesterfield King's "She told me lies".) Also, some of these tracks may not feature exclusively Farfisa organs - I'll just bet there's a Vox Continental thrown in here and there. But no goddamned synthesizers! Alright - Let the cheese flow!Feedback:
This looks great, bloke. Care to hook me up with one of these? (If we ever get to cross paths again, that is...) :-)
Oh yeah... no "Palimony Blues"?!?
Can't say I ever need to hear that again. Regardless, it's a Hammond B-3 on the track.
I love that sound! This looks like a great collection.
Another great mix. I love all those organ sounds... Farfisa or Hammond. As a teenager in the 60s I grew up next door to a guy who played a Cordovox. Talk about a cheesy organ and we're also talkin' about a Philly row house so we all heard a lot of 96 tears, etc. Sometimes we would jam together with my tenor sax. This mix brings it all back.
I was kidding, Sean. And I knew about the B-3. Just figured I'd tweak you about including your own bands on your mixes... (all in good fun, friend).
What, no Joe King Carrasco? JKC & the Crowns are like a mainline of taco-flavored spray cheese! I think they probably studied at the feet of the great Augie Meyers. This looks like a fabulous compilation, O Cheese King.
I've been hooked on farfisa since the opening notes to strychnine by The Sonics, one of my favorite instruments. I have to have this. I'm copying some mixes for you as I write this. Have you seen the Cynics lately ? They are playing in Toronto on the 10th, I only have their first album.
Here's a rhyme for you, G!
"when I lay my mat"
"I git real phat"
"I'm gonna breakdance"
"'cause I like it like that!"
Great mix, Sean. Keep Breakin'!

Great mix, Sean. Keep Breakin'!
Yeah. I've gotta have this.
Outrageously good tunes, Sean. Glad to see you back in the swing of things again. My burner is not operating at 100% at the moment, but when it does, I hope you find something of interest in my collection, so's I can get an excuse to raid yours' once again! Great work, my friend.
I love the farfisa sound, man. What was Elvis Costello using on The Beat from This Year's Model? any chance of getting this in a trade?
Stellar work, as usual, and love the notes! Hope to be playing this disc meself one day!
Cheese quotient so high you gotta' force it thru' a tube! ("96 Tears" may be my first experience with this instrument of ecstatic release....) May need a V.2....my first thought, post-? & the Mysterians, was "Commercial Rain" by Inspiral Carpets....put me in the line for a copy of my very own as well.....it's all utilitarian!
Sweet!
Viva Farfisa, indeed! Great comp of cheese...I'm gonna have to compile more oddities worthy of a trade...Really good work.
Very nice Sean! I don't know the difference between a Farfisa, a Hammond or a Vox Continental, but I do know I like this mix, and would love to trade for it someday. So what's become of Madam Buglady? I hope she's not stuck in a jar somewhere.
What a delectable, tangy mix... cheese rules!
I had an idea about doing something like this a while ago - looks like you did a great job! also, fyi, knuckel drager uses a farfisa also, if you're making a volume 2. welcome back!
I'm with the other guys here Sean! This Looks wonderful....Yeah VIVA FARFISA!!! Let me know if you want to trade Sean ;-)
I know it's anachronistic, but Squeeze's "Farfisa Beat" would've fit well on this. (Then there's Stereolab's "Farfisa", but that might be even more out of place.)
Here in CASETTAland, there is a Farfisa, scored from The Water Street Mission Thrift Shop in Lancaster PA. It was $30. The upper keys don't work (I should get them fixed). It is groovy!
hey sean, don't you think it's dumb when big adult people delete your comments from their mixes. they wouldn't last a minute on the breakdance mats! go sean, breakdance! here's to that organ!
wow, way cool stuff
fantastic! if this be cheese, pour velveeta down my pants. glaring omission: steve nieve on any early EC. but you know i want a copy. and watch the mails, my friend.
organ music for t&a? what trade could be better? email me yer addy andi'll pop a mix off to ya!
Oh yeah! Farfisa, rock on! This looks very, very essential... Methinks I needs it.
good job. Organ rules.
good eat'n all around brother...nice tracks!
I have just stumbled across the list. Excellent in every way.
That farfisa drone just burrows into the soul... great stuff.
