Comment:

The power of music, no matter what form, genre, era.

Ten years ago I read "I Had A Hammer", the Hank Aaron story. I was shocked, dismayed, ashamed when I read some of the hate mail and read of the threats that he had to put up with.

Why, because there is racism and hatred fostered by people who have been taught to hate.

I am a baseball historian, and a musicologist, so I used my prior on air radio experience and narrated a mix with my thoughts on baseball, racism, spirituality along with some kick butt blues to Mr.Aaron in '98.

Long story short, he was nice enough to call me back, we became friendly, we met and remain in contact.

This is a tape that I made for him for his 68th birthday, last February. He is a wonderful man, very bright, funny and peaceful.

He listens to my mixes ( probably has around 15 of them ) while fishing or driving to Mobile to visit his family.

Music......How else could a Jewish white kid from Brooklyn connect with the home run king!

Be peaceful......

And I thought this was a christmas mix! What a great story. And some great tunes. I'm glad to know the home-run king has good taste in music.
