Comment:

Of all the Southern jangle-pop bands crowding the college radio airwaves in the mid-'80's (hoping for a slice of the R.E.M. action), the Connells were always my favorite. Much more melodic (if less edgy) than a lot of what's out there, they crafted a surprising number of memorable if sadly overlooked songs. Had a few great albums (Boylan Heights, Fun & Games), some really good ones (Still Life, Ring), and some clunkers (Weird Food & Devastation), but left behind a great body of work. So here you go.

Their Boylan Heights album has always been one of my all time favorite desert island type of records. I sort of lost track of them after Fun & Games. Nice to see this collection.

Cool. I've always felt a bit sorry for the Connells. They certainly deserved more recognition. Unfortunately they never really had that breakthrough single or album that would have given them more than just a core following. Instead I find most of their catalog in the bargain used CD section.

Hey! I thought there were a couple of nice looking women in the Connells? Well, I there is a woman second from right I guess. I need some of their stuff. Let me know if you want to trade, Marc.

I'm with Ion.., although there are some serious contenders for that "breakthrough single or album" by them. ('74-'75 among 'em) Great band, great set of tracks Marc.

One of my fave rock memories - circa 1986. Drummer for the Connells brushing his teeth in the bathroom of the Electric Banana, a truly dubious club in Pittsburgh. No one there to see them, as they open for the Cynics. Great band, to be sure. First album is still my fave. Hope to hear this some day, as I lost track of them

You've anthologized some great bands, many of which I'm hoping to get to myself. The Connells would be interesting for me since I stopped paying attention after One Simple Word. I think one reason they never "got their due" is because they were flat live (at least the one time I saw them they were). Their bland stage presence matched their ordinary appearance a little too much.
