Comment:

The second artist to be featured in my informally planned "soul greats" series is a real favorite of mine, primarily (as can be seen by my track listing) for his yearning soul ballads. If/when I actually get married, my bride (I'm thinking Jen, of course) and I will be dancing to "That's How Strong My Love Is" (if not that, then Ray Charles singing "Come Rain or Come Shine"). Of course there were some great songs cut: "Tell the Truth", "You Don't Miss Your Water", "Love Man", "Shout Bamalama"... plenty of others, as well. Thanks to Sean for "Hard to Handle" and "I've Got Dreams to Remember."

Awesome! I hate to see "Tell the truth" cut, though. "I've got dreams to remember" is a really amazing song. All of these are, actually. Well done.

This is absolutely fabulous! Otis' voice by far surpasses any so-called diva or miva (male-diva?!?!) that the pop industry churns out these days. Try A Little Tenderness is also one of the greatest songs ever committed to vinyl (in my humble opinion!)

Yes! definately one of my faves as well. Otis had soooo much soul. Fiona and I did a tango to I Put a Spell on You by Screamin' Jay at our wedding.

Wow, greaseball, that's *great*. :-) I wish that I had thought of that. Thanks for the comments, folks, although I doubt that I'll be moved to do a Vol. II.

Pretty amazing to think that he was only 26 when he died. When I was a senior in high school, someone who shall remain nameless did a cover of "Dock of the Bay." When my friends thought his version was wonderful, it became my mission to convert them to Otis. Fortunately, I was able to show them the light. I still consider it to be one of my great accomplishments.
